FUTURITY STAKES GUIDELINES

1. PURPOSE
To encourage the breeding of the best possible Bloodhounds and to reward the breeders for their efforts. Thus, the Futurity Stake is weighted towards the breeder. Recognition is also given the owners in whose hands lie the responsibility of developing the inherited potentialities. The Sire is recognized for his genetic contribution.

2. GENERAL
A. Correct and timely nominations of both the litter and the individual puppy are required for stake eligibility.

B. Prize monies can only be won through competition in stake judging.

C. Nomination and Other Forms may be secured from the Futurity Director.

D. Futurity Stake judging may only be held in conjunction with ABC National Specialty Shows.

E. Futurity judging will not be held on the same day as Sweepstakes judging.

3. NOMINATION OF LITTER
A. Nomination of the litter must be made by Breeder, or Co-Breeder, who must have been a member in good standing of the ABC, for at least a twelve month period immediately preceding the date of the nomination. Nomination of a litter is made by accurately completing the appropriate form and payment of the fee by check or money order payable in U. S. funds, made out to the ABC Futurity Stake and sent with the nomination form directly to the Futurity Stake Director. The nominator, if living, must also be an ABC member at the time of the Stake judging; if not the litter will be considered ineligible.

B. Nomination of the litter must be made after the breeding, but before the puppies are whelped. Postmark on the envelope transmitting the nomination establishes the date of the nomination.

C. The fee for nomination of a litter is $25.00; there will be no refunds. Increases in the litter nomination fee can be made by a majority vote of the ABC Board of Directors but in no case shall exceed $50.00.

D. Nomination of a litter makes each puppy in the nominated litter eligible for individual nomination.

4. NOMINATION OF A PUPPY
A. Nomination of an eligible puppy for Futurity Stake must be made by the owner or co-owner, who need not be an ABC member.

B. Nomination of an eligible puppy must be made prior to the puppy reaching 4 months of age. Postmark on the envelope transmitting the nomination establishes the date of the nomination.

C. The fee for nomination of an individual puppy is $10.00; there will be no refunds. Increases in the individual puppy nomination fee can be made by a majority vote of the ABC Board of Directors, but in no case shall exceed $20.00.

D. The owner of a nominated litter may nominate the entire litter of eligible puppies by paying the fee for each eligible puppy and supplying the whelping date, name and sex for each puppy. If neither the litter registration number nor the individual registration numbers are available at the time of the nomination of the puppies, this information must be furnished as soon as it becomes available and in no case any later than three (3) weeks prior to the Futurity Stake judging. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in disqualification of the puppy concerned.

E. Any changes in the identifying information which will be included in the Futurity or ABC Specialty Show catalog from that previously provided to the Futurity Director must be received by the Futurity Director no later than three (3) weeks prior to the Futurity Stake judging. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in disqualification the puppy concerned.

5. ENTRY FOR FUTURITY STAKE JUDGING
A. Puppies are eligible only for the Futurity Stake which occurs in conjunction with the first ABC National Specialty Show held on or after the date that they reach six (6) months of age and are not eligible for subsequent Futurity Stake judging. Champions of record are eligible to compete.

B. Futurity entrants must also be entered in one of the regular classes at the ABC National Specialty Show. Fee for this class must be paid.

C. Futurity Stake entry must be indicated as an additional entry on the official AKC entry form. The entry fee for Futurity Stake is $15.00. Increase in the entry fee can be made by a majority vote of the ABC Board of Directors, but in no case shall exceed $20.00. 50% of the total entry fees received shall revert back to the Total Futurity Stake Monies for division at the next Futurity Stake as outlined in Section 8 of the Futurity Guidelines. The remaining 50% is to be retained by the local hosts to help defray the costs of the Futurity Stake.

D. The additional class entry must include age division (e.g., Futurity 6-9 Dog).

6. DIVISION OF CLASSES
A. Futurity Stake shall be divided into four age classifications:
a) 6 months and under 9 months, Puppy
b) 9 months and under 12 months, Puppy
c) 12 months and under 15 months, Junior
d) Over 15 months, Junior
B. Each age division shall be further divided by sex. Thus there are two (2) classes in each age division for a total of 8 classes.

C. Four placements shall be awarded in each of the 8 classes.

7. SEQUENCE OF JUDGING
A. The judging sequence for Futurity Stake shall be puppy dog and bitch classes (6-9 & 9-12); Best Futurity Puppy; Best Opposite Sex to Best Futurity Puppy; Junior dog and bitch classes (12-15 & Over 15); Best Futurity Junior; Best Opposite Sex to Best Futurity Junior.

B. Best Futurity Puppy, Best of Opposite Sex to Best Futurity Puppy will be selected from the first place winners from each of the divided puppy classes. Best Futurity Junior and Best of Opposite Sex to Best Futurity Junior will be selected from the first place winners form each of the divided junior classes.

C. The Best Futurity Puppy and the Best Futurity Junior shall compete for Grand Futurity Winner.

D. Eligible puppies must be breeder or owner or amateur handled during the Futurity judging. Professional Handlers will not be allowed to exhibit any dog they do not own or co-own.

8. DIVISION OF TOTAL FUTURITY STAKE MONIES
A. Total Futurity Stake monies shall first be divided as follows:
a) 25% to Futurity Stake Operating Expense Fund.
b) 75% to be divided as specified between the Futurity Stake winners.
c) Any monies not claimed due to absence, disqualification, or lack of entrants in a class shall revert back to the Total Futurity Stake Operating Expense Monies for division at the next Futurity Stake as outlined in Section 8 of the Futurity Guidelines.
B. Division of individual Futurity Stake monies.
a) 80% will be divided equally between the 8 respective classes whether or not there are any entrants for the class. Total prize money for each class will be awarded in the following manner.
1) 40% to be awarded to each of the first place winners.
2) 30% to be awarded to each of the second place winners.
3) 20% to be awarded to each of the third place winners.
4) 10% to be awarded to each of the fourth place winners.
b) 5% will be awarded to the Best Puppy in Futurity.
c) 3% will be awarded to the Best Opposite Sex to Best Puppy in Futurity.
d) 5% will be awarded to the Best Junior in Futurity.
e) 3% will be awarded to the Best Opposite Sex to Best Junior in Futurity.
f) 4% will be awarded to the Grand Prize Futurity Winner.
C. Division of individual prizes.
a) 50% of the total prize money awarded to an entrant shall go to the breeder(s) of the entrant.
b) 35% of the total prize money awarded to an entrant shall go to the owner(s) of the entrant.
c) 15% of the total prize money awarded to an entrant shall go to the owner(s) of the sire at the time of litter nomination provided that the owner of the sire has been a member in good standing of the ABC for at least a twelve month period immediately preceding the date of the Futurity Stake judging. If not, the 15% earmarked for the sire’s owner shall revert back to the Total Futurity Stake Monies for division at the next Futurity Stake as outlined in Section 8 of the Futurity Guidelines.

9. TROPHIES, ROSETTES, AND RIBBONS
A. A trophy and rosette shall be awarded to the Best Puppy in Futurity, Best Junior in Futurity, and Grand Prize Futurity Winner. The cost of these awards shall be paid from the Futurity Stake Operating Expense Fund.

B. A rosette shall be awarded to the Breeder of Grand Prize Futurity Winner. The cost of this award shall be paid from the Futurity Stake Operating Expense Fund. This award shall be awarded at the National Banquet. Only 1 (one) Breeder of Grand Futurity Winner Rosette will be awarded. If any co-breeder(s) would like a duplicate rosette, any additional rosette can be ordered at the breeder(s) expense.

C. The ABC Treasurer will make available to the Show Chairperson all applicable funds in order to distribute the required trophies, rosettes, and prize monies as outlined in Sections 8 & 9 of the Futurity Guidelines.

D. Other trophies and rosettes may be awarded at the discretion and expense of the National Specialty Show Committee.

E. Ribbons will be awarded for each placement in the classes.

F. Each ribbon or rosette shall be at least 2 inches wide and approximately 8 inches long; and bear on its face a facsimile of the seal of the American Kennel Club, the name of the prize, and the ABC logo with the date of the show, and the name of the city and state where show is given. The following colors shall be used for the prize ribbons:
a) First prize - Rose
b) Second prize - Brown
c) Third prize - Light Green
d) Fourth prize - Gray
e) best Puppy and Best Junior - Pink
f) Best Opposite Sex to Best Puppy and Best Opposite Sex to best Junior - Lavender
g) grand Futurity Winner - Pink and Green
F. All trophies, rosettes, and ribbons are retained by the owner of the entrant.

10. RECORDS
A. It shall be the responsibility of the Futurity Stake Director to keep a complete record of nominated litters and individual nomination of puppies. This information shall include but will not be limited to the following:
a) Eligible Futurity Year
b) Date of Litter Nomination
c) Date of Individual Nomination
d) AKC Registered Name or Name Applied For
e) Litter Registration Number
f) AKC Registration Number
g) Whelping Date
h) Sire of Litter
i) Owner(s) of Sire at time of Litter Nomination
j) Dam of Litter
k) Breeder(s) of Litter
l) Name of owner(s) under whom Puppy will be entered in Catalog
m) Address of Owner(s) of Puppy
o) Address of Breeder(s) of Puppy
p) Membership status of Litter Breeder(s) & Sire Owner(s) with ABC
B. Any individual who has made entries in the Futurity Stake shall receive copies of all pertinent correspondence regarding acceptance of nominations, name changes, etc. available at the time of judging.

C. The Futurity Stake Director shall receive copies of all Futurity Stake entries for comparison with file records for the purpose of determining accuracy and eligibility of Futurity Stake entrants. Any discrepancies shall be reported immediately to the National Specialty Show Chairperson.

11. FUTURITY STAKE OPERATING EXPENSE FUND
A. The ABC Treasurer shall control the Futurity Stake Operating Expense Fund. 25% of the total monies in the fund each year shall be retained by the ABC. This money shall be used by the Club to cover the cost of the rosettes and trophies for Best Puppy in Futurity, Best Junior in Futurity, and the Grand Prize Futurity Winner; as well as the operating costs of the Futurity Stake. Each year, the remaining 75% will be allocated for prizes as defined in the Futurity Guidelines.

B. All fees for nomination shall be collected by the Futurity Stake Director at the time of Litter or Individual Puppy nomination. Following acceptance of the submitted Nomination and Other Forms, the Futurity Stake Director shall forward to the ABC Treasurer all checks and money orders for deposit into the Futurity Stake Expense Fund.

12. SELECTION OF JUDGES
A. Judges will be selected by the ABC membership using the same method, and at the same time, the National Specialty judges are selected. Judges must be in good standing with the ABC/AKC.

B. Judges expenses will be paid by the ABC with expenses being approved by the board of directors.

13. SUMMARY OF MAJOR REGULATIONS
A. Litters must be nominated by the ABC member(s) / breeder(s) before they are whelped.

B. Puppies must be individually nominated by their owner prior to reaching 4 months of age.

C. Futurity is an additional class at the national Specialty and entry form must so indicate.

D. All information provided on entry form for Futurity Stake judging must be consistent with that which has been supplied to the Futurity Stake Director. Contrary information will result in disqualification.

E. There are no refunds of nominating fees for any reason after a nomination of a litter or individual puppy has been accepted by the Futurity Stake Director.

Summary of Conditions for Futurity Stake Entrants:

Futurity Stake is open to all bloodhounds for the Futurity Stake which occurs in conjunction with the first ABC National Specialty Show, held on or after the date that they reach 6 months of age who have been nominated according to the official ABC Futurity Guidelines and are not eligible for subsequent Futurity Stake judging. Division of Prize Money:

After 25% of the Total Futurity Stake monies is deferred to cover expenses, the remaining 75% shall be divided among the Futurity Stake winners as follows:

80% shall be divided equally between the eight (8) respective classes whether or not there are any entrants for that class. Total prize money for each class will be awarded in the following manner:

1st Place winner receives             40%

2nd Place winner receives             30%

3rd Place winner receives              20%

4th Place winner receives              10%

 

The remaining 20% of the Futurity Prize monies shall be awarded in the following manner:

5% will be awarded to the Best Puppy in Futurity

3% will be awarded to the Best Opposite Sex to Best Puppy in Futurity

5% will be awarded to the Best Junior in Futurity

3% will be awarded to the Best Opposite Sex to Best Junior in Futurity

4% will be awarded to the Grand Prize Futurity Winner

Division of individual prizes will be awarded in the following manner:

50% of the total prize money awarded to an entrant shall go to the breeder(s) of the entrant

35% of the total prize money awarded to an entrant shall go to the owner(s) of the entrant
15% of the total prize money awarded to an entrant shall go to the owner(s) of the sire at the time of litter nomination provided that the owner of the sire has been a member in good standing of the ABC for at least a twelve month period immediately preceding the date of the Futurity Stake judging. If not, the 15% earmarked for the sire’s owner(s) shall revert back to the Total Futurity Stake monies for division at the next Futurity Stake as outlined in Section 8 of the Futurity Guidelines.
