The following is a list of trophies currently approved by the American Bloodhound Club (ABC) to be offered at approved specialty events. A list of historical recipients of these trophies is included. All club, challenge trophies and awards of merit must be listed in the premium as well as the event catalog in order to be awarded. The wording must be included exactly as indicated below (in italics). It is not necessary to include the history of winners in the premium/catalog. This information MUST be provided to the superintendent or show secretary, for inclusion in the premium list and catalog, or if it is omitted, you may NOT award these prizes in the ring and the win will not count as a leg towards the retirement of challenge trophies.

For permanent possession, it must be won three times by the EXACT same owner(s) as on record with the AKC, not necessarily with the same dog. The winner shall receive a commemorative trophy to signify the win. The trophy shall remain in the possession of the American Bloodhound Club until it is retired. 1998, first year offered. Elder Award

Through the generosity of the Club Belge des Chiens de St. Hubert/Beigische Club Voor St. Hubertushonden (The Belgian Bloodhound Club), The American Bloodhound Club offers the Belgian Bloodhound Club Age and Beauty Challenge Trophy. A pewter Bloodhound Headpiece mounted on a Walnut Plaque. Awarded to the elder of the Veteran Dog, and Veteran Bitch in conformation judging. For permanent possession, it must be won three times by the EXACT same owner(s) as on record with the AKC, not necessarily with the same dog. The winner shall receive a commemorative win photograph to signify the achievement. The trophy shall remain in the possession of the American Bloodhound Club until it is retired. The name of the Elder Veteran dog, the owner, and the date shall be engraved on the trophy. 2003, year first offered.

Awards

Anne L. Legge Memorial Award

*In honor of Anne L. Legge, Legacy Kennels, this Memorial Award is offered by her friends, admirers, and colleagues at American Bloodhound Club (ABC) National Specialty events. The award is to acknowledge the Breeder(s) of the Best of Winners (BOW) hound at the National. The Memorial Award will be presented six (6) times, once in each region as follows:

  • Northeast in 2018
  • South Central Region in 2019
  • Southwest Region in 2020
  • North Central in 2021
  • Southeast Region in 2022
  • Northwest in 2023

*One commemorative medallion will be provided annually to acknowledge the Breeder(s) of BOW. The medallion will list the name of the award on the front, the INITIALS of the region and YEAR of receipt on the back.

*A bronze plaque on the front of the wooden base of the bronze display will state:

Memorial Award Trophy – Through the generosity of friends, admirers, and colleagues, the Anne L. Legge Memorial Award Trophy recognizes the commitment of Bloodhound Breeders with a bronze depicting a breeder at the whelping box with her dam and puppies, an original. A commemorative medallion is offered for the Breeder(s) of the Best of Winners at the National. The breeder(s) name will be engraved next to the year and region listed on the Specialty Display Bronze, an original. 2018, first year offered.

ANNE L. LEGGE CHALLENGE TROPHY - not effective until 2024

After six (6) years, the Memorial Award Trophy will become the Anne L. Legge Challenge Trophy and first be offered at the 2024 ABC National Specialty in the Northeast under the following criteria in the catalog:
Challenge Trophy -Through the generosity of friends, admirers, and colleagues, the Anne L. Legge Challenge Trophy is offered honoring the commitment of Bloodhound Breeders. A bronze depicting a breeder at the whelping box with her dam and puppies is offered for the Breeder(s) of the Best of Winners at the National. For permanent possession, it must be won three times by the EXACT same breeder(s) as on record with the AKC, not necessarily with the same hound. The breeder(s) shall receive one medallion as a commemorative trophy to signify the win. The year and breeder(s) name to be engraved on the trophy which shall remain in the possession of the American Bloodhound Club until it is retired. 2024, first year offered.

Practically Perfect Rally Award

Through the generosity of Jeff and Beth Mares, the American Bloodhound Club will offer the Practically Perfect Rally Award to recognize all Rally competitors that achieve a score of greater than (>) 95 in any level of Rally competition on the day of the Rally trial held in conjunction with the National Specialty.  This award commemorates the accomplishments of HIT M&M Sherick's Red Hot Howlitzer, CDX, RE, Can RN, Am/Can MT, CDX-C, WDHOF.The winner(s) will receive a commemorative medal to signify the win, provided by Jeff and Beth Mares.   The trophy was first offered in 2017  (For shipping, contact Lisa Martinchalk, lmartinchalk@zoominternet.net)


Award of Recognition Rally 100 Recognition Award

(For shipping, contact Lisa Martinchalk, lmartinchalk@zoominternet.net   List as follows in premium list/catalogThrough the generosity of Jeff and Beth Mares, the American Bloodhound Club will acknowledge all competitors that receive a perfect score of 100 in any level of Rally competition achieved in the Rally trial held in conjunction with National Specialty events. The call name of the competing hound, the name of the handler and the year of the event will be permanently engraved on The Mickey’s Boy “DUKE” CD, RE, MTX, WDHOF recognition award plaque. The winner shall receive a commemorative award and a green and cream rosette with gold lettering to signify the achievement. Award of Merit - National Specialty

The judge has the option of presenting up to six (6) Awards of Merit to those dogs he/she holds in high regard. The Best of Breed Winner, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed Winner and Best of Winners are NOT eligible to receive the Awards of Merit.

For permanent possession, it must be won three times by the EXACT same owner(s) as on record with the AKC, not necessarily with the same dog. The winner shall receive a commemorative trophy to signify the win. The Happiness is Elegance, CDX Memorial Challenge Trophy

This trophy was retired in 2013 by Jan Rothwell.

Through the generosity of Susan B. Rowe, The American Bloodhound Club offers The Happiness Is Elegance, CDX Memorial Challenge Trophy, a silver-plated serving tray.  Offered at American Bloodhound Club National Specialty Obedience trials for Highest Scoring Bloodhound.  For permanent possession it must be won three times by the EXACT same owner(s) as on record with the AKC, not necessarily with the same dog.  The winner shall receive a commemorative trophy to signify the win.  The trophy shall remain in the possession of the American Bloodhound Club until it is retired.  The name of the High Scoring Dog shall be engraved on the trophy.
